Brooke Christa Shields (born May 31, 1965) is an American actress and model. At the age of 12, she was a child model. She earned critical acclaim for her performance in the film of Louis Malle's Pretty Baby (1978). She continued modeling into her late teenage years and was a part of several dramas in the 80s, such as The Blue Lagoon (1980) as well as Franco Zeffirelli's Endless Love (1981).In 1983, Shields quit her job as a model and enrolled at Princeton University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Romance Languages. Shields played minor roles in films and returned to acting in the 1990s. She also starred on the NBC sitcoms Suddenly Susan (1996-202000), where she was nominated two Golden Globe Awards. The mother of the couple was English, German, Scotch-Irish, and Welsh origin, and her father had English, French, Irish as well as Italian ancestry.According to research by William Addams Reitwiesner, Shields has ancestral connections to several noble families of Italy, in particular from Genoa as well as Rome.
